I found the bird, by the well of the the fence,
a roaring winter evening.
It lay there on the ground, with a useless wing
and with eyes shining with terror.
I put my hands carefully around the body,
and brought it into my house .
It ate and it drank, and it slept all night
in front of the fire until the fire burned out.
At dawn I woke up to find that the bird
had taken wake up my breast.
There it sat and sang the sweetest notes,
with its pure and crystal clear voice.
And the notes filled my mortal house,
to the most remote nooks and crannies.
The song made me happy, and my mind became bright,
before I knew that now we were two.
I bought my bird a golden cage,
and put it in the middle of my table.
It was there when I wrote, it was there when I ate,
and it was also? with when I slept.
I talk to the birds, I play for the bird,
and it became like a dear old friend.
And in my moments of sadness and despair
s? sing it to me happily again.
With the bird in the house, my loneliness was over,
and soon I felt a zest for life again.
S? I invited home to a party, and I invited home to a dance,
and friends filled my home.
We sat all night talking about memories,
sometimes until it became light.
And the bird sat with us, how late it got,
until it fell asleep in its cage.
And months came, and months went,
and soon summer had become autumn.
And the bird grew quieter every day,
until at last it lost its voice.
It sat in his cage and look out the window,
against a sky so leaden and grey.
And only in October did I finally understand
what it was sitting there looking at?.
Against the clouds you could see them flying on? suffered,
p? road towards their real home
They traveled on? instinct, they followed the laws
nature so? wisely decided.
I said on? my bird, which sat there on the table,
s? chained and sad and silent,
s? I opened the window, and I opened the cage,
and I saw how my bird flew out.
It is against spring, soon the tree will sl? out,
now the darkness and the cold are over.
I walk around my garden and glance at the sky,
before I know that soon them here.
And I think that just one of them will make
an extra turn 'ver my home
If so? just to show his appreciation 'ver
to get? live in freedom again.
