Ann Downing long and winding road

When I made my start for Heaven,
I could only find one way.
The road that led me through the mountains
and valleys, the road not many folks would take.
Since I've started traveling on my journey,
I've covered many miles behind me.
Miles of sun and rain -
Miles of smiles and pain;
The road's been rough, but I again would chose the same
Long and winding road
Keep leading me.
Up ahead I see a sign that points me straight ahead
To victory.
I know I must be traveling right
I remember passing Calvary
Although it's dusty and it's old,
for years its bore the travelers load
One day this road will turn to gold.
There were some times
when the rocks hurt my feet.
My body burned from the sweat and the heat.
My strengths completely drained,
My face marks the pain
My back is bent from the strain.
I could turn around, but that road's still there
But then every mountain that I have climbed,
I again would have to bear
So I can't turn back, some may be using my tracks,
I see one more bend, this might just be my road's end.
Long and winding road
Just keep leading me
For up ahead I see a sign that points me straight ahead
to victory.
I know I must be traveling right
for I remember passing Calvary
And although its dusty and its old,
for years and years its bore the travelers load
One day this road will turn to gold.
And for some this road's already turned to gold.
