Oklahoma 1973 – Year the law came after me
I was pulled over early one morning
By a cop with eyes bare & cold
He said “it’s only thieves & renegades
that occupy this road”
I had 15 lbs of cocaine
hidden in the trunk of my car
And the man I shot down
just to keep the car grounded
Cause these old tires don’t get you far
And it’s 54 miles to Danville
with a hit-man on my case
For a few raw deals & some unpaid bills
And those hookers always in my face
I left the cop with plenty to think about tied up to a tree
And I rolled along with his glasses on “sorry, cop I’ve got somewhere to be”
Well the hitch-hiker’s name was Mad Dog – rotten teeth & oily hair
But it felt good, you see, to have company even though he just sat & stared
Well Mad Dog tried to bite me
but I was too quick to take
Now he’s swaying with the breeze
poison dripping down his knees
Cause I hung him with a rattlesnake
Pulled over at a roadside diner
for a drink & some needed rest
And a roll of bills & a waitress named Jill is what I took with me when I left
I hugged the cocaine & kissed the waitress as I pushed the car over a cliff
And I hopped in the Caddy that I stole from her daddy & I rolled away in it
It was a low ride
