Much has been written about the failed Abattoir comeback album âEvil Incarnateâ. I wrote this song for Abattoir (although the demo version had piano instead of acoustic guitar), and presented it to Mel Sanchez. He answered back âMark (Caro) doesnât want to do balladsâ. This is a ballad? Okay Mel. (for the record, Mark NEVER heard the demo â Mel spoke for him) Years later, Bloodlust is starting to play and record. I was asked if I had any songs that would fit Bloodlust â so, I showed them this demo. The band loved it â except for Earl Mendenhall⦠who was so dead-set against me writing that without hearing it actually said âthe singer isnât going to write music for Bloodlust â only lyrics.â So it sat until 2011. Rob Alaniz heard the demo, and said the obvious âit has EPIC written all over it â letâs do it.â Dan felt the same way. Angelo, on the other hand, didnât want to do it*. But when he informed us he was leaving the band, we started pre-production on it almost immediately.
Self indulgent? I hope not â but this song certainly was an uphill battle. And now you have it on your sound system. Enjoy! (also, guest DM screams and growls by Steve Shrapnelson (Winterthrall, Semtex Vest, Evil Dead)
