Johnny stands waiting for his mother
She knowas this train will carry him away
He takes a final look around this dirty old town

As the train pulls up and Johnny smiles his mother cries
She tries to hide the tears
As she holds on to the only thing she´s got
He dries her eyes and promises to write
She wonders if it´s worth it
As she watches him drift into the night

The snow on the street has gone black

The windows are boarded up
Most of the shops have gone

Johnny´s mother is waiting at the station
It seems a lifetime since she´s seen his smiling face
And they walk away and watch the train roll out
