They invited you to the cabin, where with each day, like the sun, thoughts of death come. Unlike it, they don't leave. but where are the beasts that we were bred to fear? In the wind that whips at your back? Or the detritus that cracks as you lift your heels? And you feel stupid. Tired of living a life to be undermined by the nature of death. And when I think of death and what mine will mean, I want to know. I've been of consequence to somebody--not just my family. No car crash death. No puke choking breath, no bleeding mess, holes in my chest, and nothing less. Nothing so stupid! So when the calls my number, I won't be sleeping.
