[The fifth trumpet (Ap 9, 1-6)]
The fifth angel sounded, and I saw on earth a star fallen from heaven. They gave him the key to the pit of the abyss; he opened it and a smoke rose from it like that of a great furnace, which darkened the sun and the air. Then, from inside the smoke, locusts came out and spread over the whole earth.
The locusts were given power like that of scorpions, but they ordered them not to harm even the grass nor vegetation nor trees: they could only bite men who did not bear the mark of God on their foreheads. It was granted to them not to kill them, but to torment them for five months with a torment like that caused by the sting of scorpions.
In those days men will seek death and will not find it, they will wish to die but the dead will depart from them.
